If you want to let your clients know what’s happening in your practice and keep them upto- date with news in the veterinary world, there’s no better way than to keep a regularly updated blog on your website. Even one a month is enough to bring readers to your page and keep them in the loop with what’s new at their local practice. You can share upcoming events, celebrate successes and easily maintain a friendly rapport, all by writing a few positive updates for your clients to follow.
If you’re new to blogging or need a little help getting started, try writing something seasonal. We’re moving from summer into autumn – what should pet owners be aware of at this time of year? Are there any new seasonal products on the market that you recommend? Are there any local events, competitions or discussions they might be interested in hearing about? Your clients will appreciate your keeping them in the know and it’ll help build a stronger bond in the veterinary circle in your area. Make sure you choose topics that the majority, if not all, pet owners can take something from. There may be a new uber-intricate, near-impossible surgical procedure you’re just dying to shout about, but you run the risk of alienating your readers who aren’t quite as familiar with that area of animal studies so… Try and make sure it’s accessible to all. If you’ve had any of your clients ask questions whose answers you think would benefit the wider community, blog about these! Any information that you think would be of use to a large number of pet-owners, discuss it in your blog. You can even make the original question the title of your piece. That way, readers will be instantly engaged when they think ‘I want to know the answer to that!’ If you add a comments section, you may even spark up some interesting discussions and a place for your local community to get advice and share experiences. Including the name of your town or city in your blog or its title will make it more discoverable in your local area. Whilst you should refrain from repeating your location unnecessarily, a couple of inclusions in the content of your blog, alongside the discussion of local topics, will optimise your position in search engine results pages. This will mean that readers in your catchment area will be more likely to find your blog, read it, pass it on, and the ripple effect continues.
Keeping a blog is the perfect way to maintain contact with your clients, keep them in the know with local practice news and just demonstrate the active persona of your practice, even if the reader hasn’t visited for a while. Keeping your clients engaged is the perfect way to make sure you maintain their custom, uphold a friendly public image and demonstrate that you care about the local veterinary community.
