A fantastic opportunity is available for a Deputy Head Registered Nurse to join a busy and supportive nursing team in Merseyside. This role is ideal for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse who is keen to step into a leadership position within a growing clinical environment.
The Deputy Head Nurse will work closely with the Head Nurse to support the day-to-day running of the surgery, helping to drive clinical excellence, operational efficiency, governance and continuous improvement. They will play a key role in shaping team culture, supporting colleagues, and ensuring consistently high standards of patient care and customer service.
This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced clinical setting, requiring a confident all-rounder who thrives on variety, teamwork and responsibility.
The role is ideally full time, typically working a 4-day week, supporting a healthy work–life balance. Shifts are 9 hours and include a mix of consulting, inpatient care and theatre duties. The weekend rota operates on a 1-in-4 basis, with duty nights on rotation. Flexible working patterns can be considered where possible and alternative arrangements are welcomed for discussion.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People
Deputise for the Head Nurse across all aspects of clinical and operational leadership
Act as a clinical coach and support the development of nurses, VCAs and student nurses
Help create a positive, supportive and efficient working environment
Support rota planning, staffing requirements and day-to-day team coordination
Ensure clinical records, protocols and SOP compliance are consistently maintained
Clinical & Operational
Deliver high-quality nursing care including consults, theatre, inpatient care, diagnostics and nurse clinics
Support controlled drug audits, stock management and clinical governance processes
Maintain hygiene, safety and infection control standards across clinical areas
Lead daily clinical rounds alongside senior colleagues
Ensure equipment, surgical packs and clinical areas are maintained to a high standard
Customer Care
Deliver a consistently professional and compassionate experience for clients and patients
Communicate clearly regarding treatment plans, progress and aftercare
Support resolution of clinical concerns in a timely and professional manner
Promote preventive healthcare and strengthen client engagement
Strategic Contribution
Support delivery of clinical standards and continuous improvement initiatives
Contribute to performance and operational targets including service quality and client feedback
