My client is actively seeking an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon (minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience) to join their well-established, independent team on a permanent basis. Ideally, they are looking for a full-time vet, though alternative working patterns can be considered.
The role is primarily based at their busy hospital site, with some sole-charge responsibility at local branch practices and occasional ambulatory shifts, offering a genuinely varied caseload well suited to a confident all-rounder.
The standard full-time rota is 4 days per week (8:00am–6:30pm), with a fair and balanced out-of-hours commitment currently at 1:10 full weekends (day shifts only), plus the occasional Saturday morning consult shift. To support work–life balance, vets receive a Monday morning off following a full weekend, as well as their scheduled day off the following week.
The practice benefits from a dedicated in-house night team, meaning there is no routine night work. Only occasional holiday or sickness cover is required, with time off in lieu provided.
Consultations are 15 minutes, with additional consideration given for complex cases and administration time. Rotas are carefully designed to be realistic and sustainable, allowing vets to hand over cases to the night team at the end of their shift.
The veterinary team is large, experienced and highly collaborative, led by Senior Vets, Associate Directors and a Director, providing excellent mentorship and leadership support. The nursing team is exceptionally strong and works to an extremely high clinical standard, supported by dedicated reception, coordination, laboratory, pharmacy and dispensary teams.
Vets enjoy a full and varied caseload, with exposure to consulting, surgery, hospital work and ambulatory duties. While the practice has clear clinical protocols to support best practice, clinical freedom is actively encouraged, allowing vets to develop and deliver their own treatment plans within a progressive, open-minded environment.
Professional development is strongly supported, including mentoring, recognition of special interests and a structured career pathway designed to support long-term progression.
The ideal candidate will be a confident, team-oriented vet who takes pride in delivering high clinical standards and supporting colleagues when needed. They will thrive in a busy environment, enjoy variety in their working week and value both professional development and teamwork.
Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle, due to the rural location. Candidates must also be eligible to work in the UK with no visa requirements.
My client is a long-established, highly reputable independent veterinary group, owned and managed by practising Veterinary Directors who are fully involved in the day-to-day running of the business. This allows for quick decision-making, minimal bureaucracy and a genuinely supportive leadership structure.
With hospital and branch sites located in beautiful rural settings, the practice combines high clinical standards with an excellent quality of life, making it an ideal opportunity for a vet seeking both professional fulfilment and long-term stability.
