About This Role
A full-time, permanent Veterinary Surgeon position is available at a busy, family-run 24/7 hospital in West Yorkshire. This well-established hospital supports a network of 19 practices and serves as both an out-of-hours hub and a referral centre.
• Full-time Veterinary Surgeon
• Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
• 4-day working week (Monday–Friday), comprising a mix of consulting, surgery, and inpatient shifts
• 1 in 4 weekends (no sole charge; 10-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday, focused on emergency and critical care, 30-minute consults, and inpatient management)
• £1,500 annual CPD allowance; certificate support and sponsorship encouraged
• Opportunity to work alongside certificate holders in Surgery, Medicine, and Dentistry
• Active internal CPD and clinical development program
• Join a supportive team of 70 colleagues, including 15 vets
This role would particularly suit an experienced vet with an interest in ophthalmology, as there is the potential to combine general duties with dedicated ophthalmology clinics and procedure days. With strong referral potential and a growing caseload in this area, there is significant scope to develop advanced services.
Due to the high clinical standards in both first opinion and hospital services (OOH and referrals), this role is not suitable for recent graduates or vets requiring significant in-house training. Applicants must have substantial experience working in UK veterinary practices and a proven clinical track record.
Advanced Procedures and Case Exposure:
The hospital regularly performs:
• Oesophageal tube placements
• Seldinger chest drain placements
• Silicone abdominal peritoneal drains
• Pig tail urinary catheters
• TFAST/AFAST
• Endoscopy
• Negative pressure wound therapy
• Urinary catheterisation
Common medical and surgical caseloads include:
• Caesareans
• Pyometra
• Exploratory laparotomies (enterotomy, enterectomy)
• Addison’s disease
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
• Severe pancreatitis
Facilities & Equipment include:
• In-house diagnostics: Procyte, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, Coags (APTT/PT), Angio/Felv/FIV/Parvo/Lepto, transfusion medicine, lipid testing
• Advanced imaging: Digital X-ray, CT, ultrasound with Doppler
• Scopes: Flexible video endoscope, bronchoscope, otoscope, rigid scope
• Surgery: Gen11 vessel sealing, Valleylab monopolar/bipolar, Ligaclips
• Laparoscopy
• Dental X-ray with CR7 developer
• Full multiparameter monitoring: ECG, capnography, SpO2, BP, temperature
• Doppler BP and ECG
• E20 sterilisation
