An independent, family-owned and RCVS-accredited veterinary practice in Manchester is looking for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing clinical team.

This is a practice that genuinely values its people and has created a supportive, friendly environment where the team is encouraged to work together and have a good balance between work and life outside of the practice. The successful candidate will become part of an experienced team of Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs, receptionists and dedicated support staff.

The position would suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident managing their own medical and surgical caseload. This role is not suitable for a new graduate.

The practice has invested heavily in its facilities and equipment, providing vets with everything they need to deliver a high standard of patient care. Facilities include three general consultation rooms, a dedicated cat clinic with two additional consultation rooms, three surgical theatres, a dedicated dental suite, digital X-ray, a full on-site laboratory and separate cat and dog waiting areas. There are also staff kitchen and breakout areas, showers, changing facilities and free on-site parking.

The role offers a varied caseload, covering everything from routine consultations and preventative healthcare through to emergency cases and more complex medical and surgical work. Depending on the successful candidate's experience and interests, this may include routine surgery, emergency procedures, caesarean sections, dental cases, second-opinion consultations and ongoing case management.

Consultations are generally 15 minutes, with additional time allocated for complex cases and euthanasia appointments. The practice also recognises the importance of giving vets time to complete the work that happens outside of consultations, with protected time for reviewing cases, checking laboratory results, updating clients and completing clinical administration.

There is a one-hour lunch break, as well as time for clinical discussions, team catch-ups and proper case handovers between shifts.

Work-life balance is an important part of the role, with a 40-hour working week, no out-of-hours requirement and just 1 in 3 Saturday mornings. The successful candidate will also receive seven weeks' annual holiday, their birthday off and protected administrative and case follow-up time.

As an independent practice, the team has a genuine opportunity to influence how the practice develops. Staff are encouraged to share ideas and feedback around equipment, clinical protocols, workflows, rotas and anything else that could improve their working environment.

The practice is looking for someone who takes pride in their work, supports their colleagues and wants to become part of a close-knit team. In return, the successful Veterinary Surgeon will have access to modern facilities, clinical support, development opportunities and a strong focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
