    About This Role

My client is seeking an experienced Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join their dedicated team in South Wales. This is not a typical OOH role - ideal for a vet with a passion for emergency and critical care who is looking for a more structured, predictable rota alongside a manageable caseload. It is part time, working 33.41 hours per week.

You will focus solely on emergency cases, with no routine appointments, providing exposure to a varied and clinically interesting caseload from both charitable and private clients. The role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative environment, where clinical standards and patient welfare are prioritised over targets or revenue.

You will be part of an experienced team with clear and safe ways of working, regular breaks built into shifts and access to the tools and support needed to perform at your best. There is also the opportunity to support and mentor Veterinary Students, contributing to their development in a real-world emergency setting.

This position would suit a confident clinician with strong decision-making skills, a calm approach under pressure and a genuine interest in emergency and critical care.

The hospital is modern, well-equipped, and highly collaborative, offering a great environment for teamwork, case discussion and shared learning. Facilities include separate dog and cat wards, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and a wide range of orthopaedic equipment.

My client is committed to creating a positive and supportive working environment and offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

    • Salary: £63,560 – £76,146 (including allowances) pro rata

    • Flexible working options to support work–life balance

    • 5 days CPD allowance with £1,000 annual budget

    • Professional fees covered (where applicable)

    • Access to internal and external CPD opportunities

    • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with option to buy/sell additional days

    • Additional paid leave for wellbeing, volunteering, and personal celebrations

    • Generous pension contributions

    • Life assurance (4x annual salary)

    • Private medical cover and 24/7 wellbeing support

    • Access to a wide range of retail and lifestyle discounts

    • Enhanced family leave policies

    • Staff discounts on veterinary services and pet insurance

The successful candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in ECC, confident working independently during OOH shifts, and committed to delivering high-quality, welfare-focused care.
