    About This Role

My client is seeking an experienced Poultry Veterinary Surgeon – or an experienced Small Animal or Farm Vet looking to transition into poultry – to join their well-established and growing team in Herefordshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest dedicated commercial poultry and game bird practices, offering a unique and rewarding career path with excellent work-life balance and clear progression opportunities.

    The Practice

Founded in 2018, my client has grown into a leading name within the poultry sector, with multiple sites across the UK, in-house laboratories, and a specialist biosecurity division. They work closely with commercial poultry farms supplying major supermarkets, as well as genetic companies, pharmaceutical organisations, and research institutions.

    The Role

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Herefordshire.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00, with a 1:4 weekend on-call rota following training.

The role offers a varied and engaging caseload, including:

    • Diagnostics through postmortems, laboratory work, and on-farm visits

    • Routine health and welfare planning, including schemes such as Lion Code and Red Tractor

    • Disease surveillance, including Avian Influenza response

    • Occasional export certification work

    • Data analysis and epidemiology

    • Building strong client relationships and delivering innovative, welfare-focused solutions

This opportunity offers a more balanced lifestyle compared to many other veterinary disciplines, alongside the chance to progress quickly into more senior responsibilities.

    Training & Development

My client provides a highly supportive and collaborative environment, with a team of experienced vets holding a range of postgraduate qualifications.

They actively encourage career development and offer:

    • Generous CPD allowance including international opportunities

    • Support for further qualifications

    • Regular clinical collaboration and knowledge sharing

    The Candidate

My client is ideally looking for:

    • An experienced Poultry Vet, or

    • A Small Animal or Farm Vet with postgraduate experience looking to transition into poultry

They will provide full support and training in poultry medicine.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Confidence, resilience and decisiveness

    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability

    • Leadership and teamwork skills

    • Attention to detail

    • A genuine interest in poultry health and production

    The Team

The Herefordshire team is close-knit and supportive, consisting of experienced vets, a practice manager, administrative support and a veterinary technician. They work collaboratively and regularly meet for clinical discussions.

    The Location

Herefordshire offers an excellent quality of life, with beautiful countryside, a strong sense of community, and a range of outdoor activities. It combines rural living with good transport links and accessibility to larger towns and cities.
