    About This Role

    Emillie's client in Lancashire is looking for a full-time small animal vet surgeon for a 12-month FTC!

    • Salary of £40,000 to £60,000 (DOE)
    • Full-time but open to discussing flexible working options.
    • Participation in a rotating out-of-hours rota, with variation across 3, 4, and 5-day working weeks across an 8-week cycle.
    • Weekend out-of-hours cover is 1.5 in 8, with TOIL.
    • On-call typically includes one weekday night every other week, with the following day off.

    Work alongside a large, experienced clinical team that includes certificate holders in medicine, dentistry, and ECC. The nursing team also holds qualifications in areas such as ECC, anaesthesia, feline medicine, dentistry, and physiotherapy. 24-hour patient care is provided by dedicated night RVNs, ensuring continuity and support for on-call vets.

    The main site is equipped with modern facilities including digital radiography, ultrasound, flexible and rigid endoscopy, multiparameter monitoring, a dental suite with x-ray, a well-stocked in-house laboratory, and designated consulting and bereavement rooms.

    A varied and high clinical caseload offers excellent opportunities for professional development. CPD is actively encouraged, with a £1,700 annual budget and five paid CPD days (pro rata). Funding is available for those pursuing certificates.
    RCVS membership and VDS cover are included, along with two additional professional subscriptions.

    Collaboration with peripatetic specialists in ultrasonography and cardiology allows for in-house case development.

    A supportive workplace environment includes qualified GDP mentors, mental health first aiders, and a well-being team. The practice also acts as a nurse training centre and regularly hosts student placements. Additional, regular team-building events and charity fundraisers foster a strong team culture.

    The Role

    • On-call responsibilities are structured to allow generous time off following shifts, including the day after night duty.
    • Weekend out-of-hours cover is 1.5 in 8, with time off in lieu.
    • On-call typically includes one weekday night every other week, with the following day off.
    • A professional telephone answering service handles out-of-hours calls, minimizing disruption.
    • Overnight care is supported by qualified night RVNs, reducing the burden on the veterinary team and improving inpatient outcomes.
