Emillie's client in Lancashire is seeking a SA Vet Surgeon to join their supportive and friendly team!

• Salary between £40,000 and £65,000 (DOE).
• Full-time, 5-day week.
• 1.5 in 8 weekends, and 1 night on-call every 2 weeks.
• Open to discussing flexible working options.
• Work with certificate holding Vets including medicine, dentistry and ECC.
• On-site accommodation is available; this is a private flat with a shower and TV facilities.

The practice was established in 1911, and offers high quality, first opinion veterinary care to small animals in a stunning area of Lancashire. They have a large team with varied experience, including certificate holders in medicine, dentistry and ECC. In addition, several of their nursing team also hold certificates in ECC, anaesthesia, feline nursing, feline medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy. The practice also provide 24-hour care for clients an inpatients with 3 dedicated night RVNs (2 with ECC certificates) who take the phones overnight for the on-call vets.

The branch is equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound machine, flexible & rigid endoscopy, two surgical theatres with multiparameter monitors and a dental suite with dental x-ray machine. They also have an extensive in-house laboratory, 4 consulting rooms and a designated bereavement room, as well as separate canine and feline inpatient wards. This allows them to treat their varied and high caseload, making room for progression in many areas of veterinary practice.

CPD and further education is actively encouraged, with a generous £1700 CPD budget and 5 paid days of per annum (pro rata). With the addition of certificates being encourage and funded. RCVS memberships and VDS cover will be provided, plus two other subscriptions/memberships.

They work closely with peripatetic specialists in ultrasonography and cardiology, enabling them to work up the majority of cases in-house. Along with working closely with the University of Central Lancashire as a training practice, as they are a registered nurse training facility. Investing in an improved well-being at work, by being a supportive workplace with several GDP mentors, mental health first aiders and well-being champions who meet regularly to arrange team events.

As a practice, they enjoy having frequent social events. Over the last few years, they have taken part in the annual charity Pub Walk, covering 13 miles and visiting a few pubs for refreshments on the way! Many of the team enjoy taking part in activities, often raising money for various charities.

Out of hours and On-Call Vets:
• Full-time vets involved in the out-of-hours service do work a variation of 3, 4 and 5-day weeks throughout the 8-week rolling rota. If you are a full-time vet doing on-call, you will only have two 5-day weeks in every 8 weeks. However, many choose to have extra days off. They are very open to suggestions and happy to discuss what hours may suit you.
• Their clients really appreciate the in-house out-of-hours service. However, they understand how this can impact on vets and do ensure on-call is kept to a minimum, and vets have the following 24 hours off after being on call.
• To further improve overnight care and provide major support to vets, they have a dedicated team of RVN’s who work through the night. This makes being on call a lot less arduous for the on-call vet and greatly improves inpatient care.
• Providing in-house OOH care not only gives clients a better service but also increases case exposure. Thus, allowing you to build experience and confidence in dealing with emergency and critical care patients.

Weekend OOH rota is 1.5 in 8, with generous time off in lieu given:
• On-call Friday / Work Saturday morning only / Sunday on call (Monday & Tuesday off in lieu)
• On-call Saturday (With a Friday off in lieu), followed by 6 weekends off

In addition, you would be on-call approximately 1 night every other week with the following day off. The rota is on a continuous 8-week cycle, allowing you to plan your life ahead. They have an OOH telephone answering service, so you will not be taking calls directly. Recent graduates will be given veterinary back-up OOH. There is CCTV so you can remotely keep an eye on inpatients.
