This could be a great opportunity to join a busy hospital practice with a varied caseload, an experienced clinical team and genuine scope to develop your career.
Whether you’re confident with the fundamentals of medicine and surgery and want support with more complex cases, or you’re an experienced vet who enjoys taking ownership of cases and sharing knowledge with colleagues, there’s plenty of opportunity to make the role your own.
The role
You’ll work across a main hospital site and several nearby branch surgeries, giving you a good mix of team-based working and sole-charge experience.
The role includes:
4 days per week
A share of long weekends off
1:5 long weekend rota
1:3 Saturday mornings, 9am–1:30pm
No on-call
Approximately two dedicated surgery days per week
A mixture of consultations, medical cases and surgery
Time split between the main hospital and nearby branches
Minimal disruption to your working day, with branch surgeries closing during the day to allow the team to regroup at the main practice
As the role involves travelling between sites, a full driving licence and access to a car are essential.
A varied caseload with plenty of support
You’ll be joining a team of around eight vets, with a broad range of clinical interests and experience.
The practice is busy and offers plenty of exposure to a varied caseload, while the team culture means you won’t be left to manage challenging cases without support.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Develop your confidence in both medicine and surgery
Work alongside experienced vets
Discuss and share cases with colleagues
Take ownership of your own cases
Build on your existing surgical skills
Develop specific areas of clinical interest
Work towards a certificate with support and mentoring
There is a genuine balance between clinical independence and having experienced colleagues around you when you need them.
The ideal candidate
We’re looking for a permanent Veterinary Surgeon with at least 3 years' UK practice experience.
You’ll ideally be someone who:
Has solid general-practice skills in both medicine and surgery
Is confident communicating with clients and colleagues
Enjoys working as part of a team
Is comfortable working independently when required
Has a willingness to learn and progress
Enjoys sharing knowledge and experience
Has a good sense of humour
Has a genuine passion for animal welfare
The practice is particularly keen to hear from vets who are confident in surgery and interested in helping to support and develop less experienced colleagues.
Development and benefits
Competitive salary up to £60,000, depending on experience
£1,500 annual CPD budget
Additional support towards certificate study
Mentoring from senior vets
VDS cover
28 days' holiday including bank holidays
Cost-price veterinary treatment for your own pets
Self-contained accommodation available above one of the branch practices, which can form part of the overall package
No on-call
Why consider this role?
This is a great opportunity for a vet who wants variety without being isolated, autonomy without being unsupported and development without sacrificing work-life balance.
You’ll have a four-day working week, a varied caseload, dedicated surgical time and an experienced team around you, with genuine encouragement to develop your career further.
If you’re an experienced GP vet looking for a role where you can become a valued part of a close clinical team while continuing to grow your skills, this could be a very good fit.
